Why This Royal Caribbean Cruise Was One of Our Favorite Family Vacations

Some vacations are relaxing. Some are adventurous. Some are all about the destination.  And then there are vacations that somehow manage to be all three.

One of my favorite vacations was our 2025 Royal Caribbean cruise aboard Freedom of the Seas.  We sailed from Fort Lauderdale with stops in Grand Turk, Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas, Basseterre in St. Kitts, and Philipsburg in St. Maarten. We traveled with family and friends, which made the experience even more special.

The Best Part? Everyone Gets Their Own Vacation.

One of the reasons we love cruising for family vacations is that you don't have to do everything together.

The kids had plenty of opportunities to swim, play, explore the ship, and have fun with each other. Meanwhile, the adults could relax by the pool, enjoy a drink, try different restaurants, or simply have some quiet time.  Then we'd meet back up for dinner, an excursion, or an evening together.

It's the perfect balance of together time and time to yourself!!

Four Ports, Four Completely Different Experiences

Every stop gave us something different to enjoy.

Grand Turk — beautiful Caribbean water, sunshine, and plenty of time to relax.

St. Thomas — stunning views, island scenery, and time to explore Charlotte Amalie.

St. Kitts — one of our favorite memories was our dolphin experience. Getting up close with the dolphins was an unforgettable experience for both the kids and adults.

St. Maarten — we spent time at the beach watching airplanes fly incredibly close overhead as they landed at the airport. It's one of those experiences that is just plain FUN and something the kids absolutely loved.

A Very Special Moment

One of the most meaningful parts of the entire trip happened right on the ship.  I had the incredible honor of performing a vow renewal ceremony for our friends and business partner, Brad, and his wife, Heather.

Getting to celebrate their love while surrounded by family and friends, in the middle of a Caribbean cruise, was such a special moment.  It was one of those experiences that reminded me that travel isn't just about the places we visit.  It's about the people we share them with and the moments we get to celebrate together.
